Dual exhaust

hey guys im in the process of puting dual exhaust on my tracker. iv got it planned out pretty good and im gonna run it over the frame and run cherrybombs on the out side of the frame and have the ends come out right in front of the rear tires. i was wounderin if you guys have any imput for me or questions i think it will come out great and i will try to get some pics up of it when im done and of the whole build. ;D

uh, why bother? ... it's a 4cyl 1.6 engine ...

unless you mean a later model witha v6.

its not becase i want to preformance it up or nothing. im just doin it to do it. dont you think it would be sick to have dual exhaust on a tracker. im hoping it will be a quiet rumble sound but it probly wont have the rumble. like i said im just doin it to do it. :laugh:

I think your performance would go down. Had a 302 mustang and we put brand new dual exhaust and lost the low end torque. It was an automatic 69 that would peel out. After the exhaust change, it wouldn't. I was 18 though and maybe I needed to change the carburation.

Your motor requires some back pressure to perform. Dual? Most will just laugh at the idea but then there's your reason " I'm just doin it to do it". 95% of the people on this site are using their Suzuki's & looking to improve & maintain their rigs. Ya, if you keep posting the "dual pipe" question the 5% will most likey respond. Maybe a "Jeep" would be better suited. They "Jeeper's" have a saying " it's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand!" Your "just doin it to do it "fits , along with dual exh. Hope this info helps. Merry Christmas!

i also looked into going split pipe

running single exhaust, then branching it in twain

if youre super set in doing it, i say go for it

I think you'll end up with something that sounds like a bunch of firecrackers going off in a metal can than any kind of rumble.  The engine is too small to fill the exhaust of a couple large glasspacks.  I'd just split after the muffler if you want the look.

I'm pretty sure any 4cyl will sounds like a Fart can if you put cherry bombs on it.
I have a cherry bomb on my S10 (aka S-dime!)....ya its a fart can and a half!

As other people are saying, a car does need some back-pressure to run, expescially a small 4cyl,
Duels would most likely kill the pressure needed.  Unless you went with like 1" exhaust pipe from header back  ::)

here's my recent experience ...

(all this is 2 1/4" stuff)
I put on a thorley header and an "open flow" cat ... pretty much sounded like open pipes.
I then added a cherry bomb behind the cat ... had a definte "rumble" but still a bit TOO loud.
I then added a genric "turbo muffler" ... sounds pretty good, but some drone on the hiway at 4k rpm.

I still need to get a pipe bent to go back from the muffler ... I expect that to help stop some of the drone I get with it currently dumping right in front of the rear axle.

Then tell your friends you have dual exhaust! You'll have the look and your friends probably won't think to check your exhaust set-up. When I put dual exhaust on my 69 Mustang, it was because every other kid my age was talking about dual exhaust and how cool it was. I should have just split it after the muffler and saved the cash. It got totaled by a couple drunk chicks less than a month later.

If you're doing it just to do it... more power to you. It's your rig, and you're the one that has to be happy with it, not us.

That said - you will likely loose performance. If you're interested in performance, go with a 2" or 2 1/4" exhaust piping, dug thorley header, and high-flow cat. It'll sound deeper / richer & allow enough air flow to get more power (mostly high RPM), but maintain enough backpressure to keep the bottom end torque needed for slower wheeling.

I used Doug Thorely headers 2 1'4" and cherry bomb glass packs and really loved it. More power than stock certainly. sounded pretty good too. I like your dual exhaust idea. It doesn't make the best since but spending an extra $5k to make a Tracker run 35s instead of buying a bigger truck from start doesn't make the most since either. In the end it's an emotional issue, that said do what makes you happy.
Now I've got a turbo and 2 1/2" with a glass pack. more power still but a little too quiet.
