need help with 1.6l 8v running issues
« on: August 29, 2006, 10:44:32 PM »
im having problems with my 1.6l 8v motor in my 92 sidekick. it idles ok but when you give it gas it boggs down wanted to stall and if you floor it, it will stall. i have replaced the fuel filter, oil + oil filter, spark plugs, plug wires, dist. cap + rotor. with no change. any suggestions? it also smokes when you give it gas. the only other thing i can think of is the timing or timing belt.

i believe the smoke is white. when i first bought it, it was smoking really bad. then i changed the oil which was almost like molasses, and it wasnt smoking as much.

White smoke indicates a possible head gasket problem. You need to do a compression test.

would i be able to tell if its a head gasket by just looking at it? would a blown head gasket cause it to bogged down and stall?

well, it turns out that i have a blown piston in the #2 cylinder. looks like i need a new motor. >:(  time for a swap...but what?  i have a spare 16v in the basement. im not going to do the DOHC head swap, after talking to some guys on teamswift, and redlinegti its just not worth the little power gains, id be better off building the 16v. but i was also thinking of the 2.5l V6 from the G.V. any ideas? no deisel, i want to keep it suzuki ;D
