has anyone else had problem with the rear brakes freezing up due to water freezing in them after going through snow and does anyoe have a fix?  thanks

Been under a couple of rigs in my younger days smaking backing plates to release those frozen shoes. The thing too do is not set your parking brake, that way the shoes are not in contact with the drums and they can not freeze up.

the wierd part is i didnt set my e brake and it still froze usally i can just break them loose by driving foward but they just wouldnt pop i will prolly have to heat them up with the propane heater

Rocking a bit in 4-low has always been enough to break them free for me.

No problems with having a couple of holes in the backing plate but you shouldn't need to drill any as the drum is not sealed to the backing plate. Any water will run out by itself.

I think you need to adjust your brakes so that the shoes are out of contact with the drum so they will not freeze up. Your brakes should not be freezing up.

wow i wasnt even thing there not sealed so they should not retain water it must just be the snow packed in them froze im gonna take them apart when it warms up and adjust them a little bit hopefully that will fix the prob
