spidertrax spider 9???

I’m thinking about buying a spider 9 from Spidertrax.  If I do this all I get is the housing what else do I need to buy beyond a 3rd member and axle shafts? I'm trying to see how much $$$ a need to save up for all the little parts which also seem to add up fast ;)

I think bearings, seals, breaks, 3rd, axle shafts.
correct me if im wrong but i think its what you need, maybe some other small things that i cant think of.

Was think the same thing.  After  looking  in to having one built at $2500  :o  or doing my self which looks like it will around $1000  :-\

Did you call spidertrax? Do they sell axles with it? Im sure the spider9 is a high clearance axle, something else to consider. Also I think that a $1000 is a little on the light side. You will want to buy a pair of stronger axles. Im very suprised how weak the rear axle flanges are on the nine inch axles. The tracker axles actually have larger bearings.  ::) I bent a couple axle flanges before I bought Superior axles. No problems since. Stan has broken 3 O.E. Ford nine inch axles now. 1 28spline and 2 31spline. He is planning on buying Superior axles now too. Some kind of brakes are going to be needed too. Dont get me wrong I do think this is a good choice for you, I just want you to compare apples to apples. I would call them, let them know what your looking to do, and it probabally wouldnt hurt to mention that you got their link off the Zukiworld board. ;) Just so you know they are a really great bunch of guys. Im sure they would be happy to help you if they can.

go to the salvage yard and pick and pull a nine inch out of a crown vic, then get some nice axles for it.

I have called SpiderTrax they only make the housing no compleat axles as of now.  They did give a # to a shop in my area to call to put the whole thing together that's where the $2500 came from.  If you think a $1000 is on the light side what do you think it shoulld be?

You may have a few hookups that Im not aware of but this is a quick estamate.

Nine parts axle----------------------------------------- $200
Gears + Shipping----------------------------------$200-$400
Axles + Shipping ---------------------------------------$300
New bearing and seals ---------------------------------$150
Brakes $ depending on what you choose to use-$200-$400
Detroit locker + Shipping ----------------------------- $500
Driveshaft flange and machine work -------------$100-$200
Supplies / welding wire / cutoff wheels ECT------- $50

Totals $1800 min to do it right

I would go 31 spline if I were to do mine again. I have never broke an axle since I went to superior but 31 spline is almost the same price. I would price out 35 too just for the hell of it. I would also get a big bearing axle. I have had 3 axle bearings fail. I replaced both each time one failed. 3 failures in just over 100,000 miles. The small bearing is actually smaller than the suzuki bearings. :-\

I called Spydertrax also because I liked their housing. But I dont have the time to chase parts and lay in the mud at a pick n pull. At $2000 to build a 9 , even with without a locker...

A little over  $3400 got me a built to order  heavy duty Ford 9 with 31 spline axles, nodular third with ARB air locker and Ford Explorer disc brakes. Every thing came boxed up and ready to bolt together. All I have to do is burn the brackets off my 2000 Vit rear housing and weld them on the smooth Currie housing.  The Calmini WHITE VIT should be back on the trails soon....better than new.
