Hmm, you cut holes in your body ???, and placed your filter system in harms way :-[.  For what, do you think you gained a  noticable power increase  :-\?

You might be looking for the "We love our Zuki's stock" website...... ;D

Wait, that's right, they don't have one of those....

Its like this, cars are like tissue paper, in the end you end up wadding it up and getting a new one......My 1st car was a 1970 Baracuda 383, loved that car, wanted to keep it stock, beautiful and clean for ever.....2 years after i got it a drunk driver ran a red light and totaled it out from under me.....my next love was a mazda pickup with a alum block V-8 and a corvette 4sp......engine blew, couldn't find another one (a 1961 Buick Special 215cid alum V8)........my '83 Mustang GT got creamed at a light too......I have about 12 more of these stories but you can see where this is going......if you buy a car to keep forever, stock, so one day its worth a mint, you can't drive that car...it has to stay in a garage so its low miles and clean and accident free....but not a daily driver...

As to another comment I've heard, that its wrong to cut up a X90 'cause they are rare, ppphhhttt, 6,000+ sold isn't rare, its unpopular......the 12 or so 1970 Hemi Cuda's convertabiles made, now that is rare!

100 years from now my X will be dust and rust particles, what I do with it now hardly matters in the long run....long as it makes me happy   ;D

...and of 'course there was a power increase, cold air does that, simple physics, may not have been very big but its the total effect from many engine or weight loss mods that give you the bottom line of weight-to-power ratio.

As to "in harms way", jeez, it ain't a battleship and sticks out no further then my mirror or flairs.. I guess that would depend on your driving skill and style...
All who know me off-road know i take my time and know where every tire and rock is,  votely least likely tp scrape the side of my X down a big rock or tree....  8)

There were only about 2,000 SJ-410's brought into the US, I chopped mine all up.  :D

Are you going to put a more permanent solution in place?

I think that's a pretty cool setup. personally I would have it how it was for the tropical storm with something to hold it together other than duct tape (I know you were in a jam and duct tape is the shizz but I mean for permanant) so did you get some noticable ponies with it out there instead of under the hood? I think my GV could use a cusom cone filter intake one of these days and I appreciate this writeup dinger you posted to provide ideas for me and other anti-stock vehicle people

You may or may not notice, but in some cases, cold air intakes can de-crease performance, especially if you don't have a larger exhaust system to go with it. Gas milage will go down, and certain torque levels will be lost at either high or low rpm(this depends on the engine) I have to be honest wolf66, I don't like it, and it's not something I'd do for performance for such a small gain, but like you said, it's your rig, and you do what makes you happy ;) I probably would have bought a snorkel if I lived in your area.

Yeah, I had a homemade snorkel first and didn't like having to use the restrictive stock air box on top of the long snorkel draw through only 2.75" ABS....(the next size up ABS looked too big)

Seemed counter-productive performancewise...

I imagine I will maybe lose a little power at hwy-speed from windage drag but pick up some Hp at slower speeds like when i am trail riding...

exhaust wise I have so far added a DT cermaic coated header and a magna-flow hi-flow cat and a Thrush Turbo muffler, still need to go to 2" pipe though....

Am pondering a Nitrous install  next as its a easy 35hp bolt on for around $500.....'course you only get that 35hp for 10 seconds at a time but still!!!..... ;D

"Sport Compact All EFI "Stage One" Single Nozzle Nitrous System

Utilizing the patented "Shark" nozzle, these systems are fully adjustable, 35,50,75 horsepower for 4 cylinder and V-6 applications, and up to 150h.p. for V-8 and V-12 cars. These systems require no engine modifications, operate on stock fuel pumps, and require no retardation in timing. The ultimate solution to make your import a "Rocket". Any horsepower settings above the recommended levels require "NX Power Booster" fuel additive to prevent detonation. Kit comes with 10 lb bottle.  "

that's pretty cool, I dislike stock air boxes as well. I would think youre shield would prevent the power loss at high speed but I don't know for sure.

sounds like you're getting some good ponies out of that.. I wish they manufactured headers for the 2.5 sooo badly. I have 2-1/4 ehxaust with 2.5 inch after the muffler and a 3 inch tip allong with a high flow cat before that.. made a big difference allong with my modified stock air box with K&N. still stock downpipes and manifolds... I bet those are really clogging itup

.............and half my battle isn't to make my X faster then stock but to make it as fast as it WAS stock..........30x9.5"MT's now  Vs the stock 25"-195/65's  is a big power loss at the rear wheel....plus all the drag from the lift and assorted cutting around the ft spoiler and wheel wheels...

Some non-zuker's look at me crazy for building a such a small motor but i say it makes more sense to add some extra ponies to a 98hp motor then one that has 350hp+ stock....

yea, I agree with you. did you regear at all? people with sami's regear and say that all of a sudden they have a ton more power to the ground. are you getting close to having the same power to the ground as you did stock?

I am wondering what my 2.5 will do when I put 235/70/R16's or a tadd bigger on it. they are only about 29'' so I'm hoping it won't be that big of a deal

Yeah I went from the 4.62 to the 5.12 gears, it did help but its still about 6 or 7% undergeared from stock according to my gps vs my speedo.

I went from the 195/65AS tires to 215/70AT to 225/75AT to 235/75AT to my current 30x9.5MT which was the biggest power loss of all the tires I have put on.....I'd like to see how fast she is with the stock rims and tires again...

Right now she's about fast as stock and about 1/2 slower (0-60) then when i had 215's on her...and these 30" seem big, they are way bigger then the 235's i had..

yea, do you have performance cam(s) yet? don't know if it's 16 or 8 valve, I'd think 16

i like the idea i was thingking of the hummer style intake where there isthe little chimney looking stack out the tonp of the hood area. figure sonething like that would be neat little condom over the intake for unwanted wets.... ;D

I like it I do agreee tho you should look at strengthening it for trail use. good thoughts all round.
