Tires...am i crazy??
« on: October 31, 2003, 12:43:25 AM »
ok i've been here enough to know that it's not suggested to put 235/75/15 tires on a non lifted kick.  but i saw one the other day with what appeared to be a completely stock suspension and it had 235 BFG A/T's.

Am i crazy?

can you put those on a stock tracker/kick.  i mean i plan to get a 2inch lift very soon and plan to go that size (235)....but my current tires are in REAL bad shape and need to be replaced within this month, i'd prefer to buy the 235's now rather than another set of the tires i don't want till the 235's can fit.  I don't do alot of hardcore off roading right now (i'll save that for after the lift) so i don't care about articulation at this point,  just will those tires clear the wells is all i need to know.

i have seen people fit 30" on stock trucks ... but aparently it rubs when turning and flexing so i guess its pointless lol ...  235's should be okay i seen planty of people running them with no problem.

I want to get a nice new set of rubber on my rims.  Right now I have 2 BF Goodrich Control TA's on the front wheels, 2 BF Goodrich Trail Maker II's on the back wheels and a Dunlop for a spare.

Pretty wacky, eh?

What tires would you guys recommend for stock rims.  I would like tires with aggressive tread, since is snows pretty good around here in winter time.

Thanks for any info.

It would depend a lot on what rims you use. I ran 215/80s on my stock Vit/Track/Kick (measured at 29" on 6" rims) and 235/75s would be the same height give or take (BFG claim 29.1" on a 6.5" rim). Obviously a narrower rim would make them a little higher and the backspacing has a HUGE effect on clearance. What size are your stock rims, the recommended size for a 235/75 is 6-7". Also when you say a 2" lift I assume you mean a body lift. Don't forget that with any decent suspension lift the wheels uptravel will remain the same as stock so there won't be any extra clearance when wheeling. Sorry if that doesn't really answer your question just some things to think about - I haven't tried them but I would say that on the right rims you wouldn't have any problems.
