Hello!
« on: January 28, 2005, 05:39:44 PM »
Hi everybody! Just thought I'd introduce myself. I've got a '95 Tracker, with 4wd, 5 spd.  It's just plain stock, but I love it. I've never been off-roading before, but I'm hoping to build up the Tracker a bit and give it a try this year.

I'd like to ask some questions. BTW, I did some searching on the forums here to learn what I could first, but if any of this is repeat newbie questions I apologize.
I'd like to put on some 30 or 31" tires. Something beefy looking ;) Would I be able to put that size on with just the Calmini 3" suspension lift or do I need to have a body lift kit too?  I'd rather not lift the body if I don't have too.
Also in reference to the tires, what kind of backspacing am I supposed to look for? I'm still kinda foggy on the whole backpacing concept.
Will I still be OK to drive on the highway with the larger tires or am I going to need new gears too?

Feel free to share any other tips or info a newb needs to know!  ;D

You should be able to fit 31" or 32" tires with the 3" lift.

As for backspacing, stock is 4.25", so I'd go with something in the neighborhood of 3.5" or 4" to prevent the tires from rubbing on the frame... I have 33's and 4" backspacing, and the tires rub on the frame, which is not awful, I just don't turn to full-lock anymore.

Welcome abaord.
Sounds like your starting out the same way I did ;D
Then it took off like a run-a-way train downhill ;D
Theres nothing wrong with a bodylift, if its done right.
It will be the cheapest and the only other way to get an extra 3"inches of the lift you so much DESIRE ;D
With a 3"inch suspinion lift you can fit 30-31s but some fender trimming will be required.
If ya take your time it will look factory ;D
( Calmini 6"inch lift and 32s)
from this

to this

Good luck and have fun in your new Adventure ;D

What about using the 3" lift with the Rocky Road 1" spacers? Would that work?

I would imagine you'd be running into cv angle problems with that set up.

Welcome to the group.
I wouldn't space the calmini lift as you will kill you cv's

On a side note I see you live in PA you should try and go to Gonzookin this June.  It's in Hazelton PA .  It's a great place to meet people and learn about  off roading. Plus you can see what other people are doing to their rigs ;D

What width tire should I look for?  Or I guess how wide can I go without running into rubbing issues? Also do you match up rim size with tire size exactly? Like a 31 x 10 tire would go on a 15 x 10 rim? Sorry for all the questions. I'm totally new at this and trying to learn what I can without being too annoying to people. :P

That sounds awesome! I'll definately try to make it to that. I didn't realize there were Suzuki events held around here.

hey sup welcome. the easies mod for a lift is the rocky-road 2" bodylift it requires no cutting, no shift extensions, no stearing extensions, just unbolt the old bolts jack it up and bolt on the custom bolts. if u have never lifted anything i would suggest u start with this lift or find a friend who is lifting something and lend a hand and learn as much as u can. as for rims and tires go with a 3" back space rim so u can run taller tires in the future with no rub. this back space number is for an 8" wide rim and (back space is measured by placing a flat edge across the back of the rim and measuring from the flat edge to the surface that bolts against the rotor or drum. with 5" of lift u should be able to run 33" to 34" tires with some fender trimming. i would stick to 31" for ur first set to get the hang of it and u will be suprised how capable ur rig is in stock form 4 wheel drive is a beautiful thing. if u have more questions feel free to ask thier r no unworhty questions around here.
