I imagine a lot of that cost is within the two synthetic ropes that come with it.  Two specially designed rims at $150-$200 each, plus 20 or 24 specialty lug nuts at $100-$125 a set plus shipping would put it at or around $1,000 quickly.

I didn't see the front axle guides offered.  Wonder how much they are?

 Verrrrrrry old idea . My great grandfather showed me that trick when I was 6 years old.
He used an old split rim with spacer and heavy rope.

Agreed it's an old concept, though in a ready made package. What I wonder about more is the actual torque. Winches have a ton of gear reduction... this? Hrm, not so much... less than your 'torque at the tire' because it is smaller than that tire. Yeah I can see it getting you out of a stuck. But really, unless it were a LOT cheaper than an actual winch, what's the advantage?
