Fuel Injection conversion

Howdy... I'm new to the game, as I'm trying to save my Dodge 4x4 from destruction...I love off roading (though not hell bent for destruction) and just bought a 1994 Sidekick.. Being old school, I'm looking to insure my getting back by replacing the EFI with an old fashioned manifold and carb, along with the distributor system that isn't tied into a computer.. I've experienced electronic golblins with computers and tank fitted fuel pumps before, and would rather leave them at home.. Does anyone have experience with a swap like this??  Also want to raise the suspension a couple of inches so wider/taller tires for the sand can be fitted..  I'm fairly handy with tools and a welder.. Any help would be appreciated..   My other question is concerning removable Hartops for the Sidekick.. My ragtops are in good shape, but desert dust will always find a way around snaps and velcro...    Help!!!!!!

you need to embrace technology!  ;D Fuel injection is just as reliable as a carb system. You still have a fuel pump that can fail. Once you drive a fuel injected vehicle off road and don't have to worry about stalling on hills or off camber stuff as well as the better economy you will be sold!
1991 4 door kick, 2" coil spacers, 30" Coopers, winch, locker, rust, dents, etc.

Either drive 85 or earlier or get used to computerized FI ...

With a FSM, and a working OBD ... most "problems" are easy to fix.

i think alot of us have put the trac/kick FI to the test and it pass with flying colors.

Well then, Welcome aboard Desert_Rat
I too am a DODGE person.
But found out that wheeling a Kick was more fun.
Cheaper on Gas. 1 tank of gas will last all day.
Smaller. Gets in all those tight places
Being Lighter actually gets you farther.
Yes, I've had real Dodges, POWERWAGONS, BigBlocks, Carbs, 8mpg, and 38"inch Swampers. Hardly ever off-road.
Now with my Kick, EFI and 32's
any excuss is a good excuss to get off-road.
And now with all these helpful people here you can even build a Kick on a budget and not go broke.

BTW Keep the EFI and you probley have the 16valve, which is a very good motor.

I'm confused you bought the kick to go offroad. Yet you want to get rid of one of the best features on the vehicle efi. So you don't plan on ever going off camber or on steep hills? Keep the efi you'll learn its alot less maintence then carbs and points.

hey desert rat
if its a 8 valve you could bolt a  samuri intake on and put a big weber on it  if it is a 16 valve you might have more problems
i would stick to the efi myself but hey,whatever you feel good about
