knocking
« on: January 21, 2008, 01:07:36 AM »
i was playing in the sand with my zuki last weekend when all of a sudden i couldn't shift gears any more, it was like my clutch wasn't fully disengaging and letting me shift so i ended up driving about 3 miles in the sand in 1st gear steady at about 4-5 grand the whole way right before i got out of the sand my motor started knocking pritty hard (sounds like it's comming from under the valve cover).  i drove it home listening to revs to shift and there it has sat.  i pulled the valve cover and everything seems tight (nothing looks out of order), also i pulled my spark plugs and they all look fine as well, i don't know what to do. What could it be?  it knocks at about 2 grand stops at around 2.3 then starts up again at about 2.9-3.3 grand, it fuggin sucks.  and as for my clutch, the clutch it's self is new, a few months old, as well as the clutch cable, but these have already been punished so there is no reason for them to start acting up now unless my clutch is shot which would suck, but it's not slipping at all it just wont disengage. i don't know what to do any one got any suggestions? by the way i got a 94, 8v, 2 door sidekick.

Not sure why you couldn't shift but you might check to see if you broke a u-joint. Does it knock at idle? I can't afford to go  in the sand or mudding myself.

well, as far as shifting is concerned, my samurai has a boot type thing on the cable that sometimes doesnt allow me to shift,  all i do is reach in and move it a bit and then i shift fine, maybe not the solution for you, but at least something to try

i have a 1990 8v and i had a knocking sound that sound like it was coming from the valve cover.  Come to find out i spun a rod bearing.  have it checked out asap before it does irreplaceable damage.  Mine i cought in time that the machinest was able to save mine.
