Is it worth it?

Hello I was considering dual exhaust on my 96 4 door kick. Right now, I have the cherrybomb glasspack muffler with stock exhaust. I thought about getting a nice muffler, flowmaster, or cherry with dual outlet and have dual pipes out back. My brother told me it might quiet down a little though. Then I thought about just getting a 3" tip and leaving the glasspack. So is dual exhaust worth putting into a little 1.6? Or should I keep what I have and get the 3" tip?

A 2" or 2 1/4" straight exhaust is all you need. If you want to split it and make it look fancy then go ahead but it is not going to help performance. If you want to be able to brag that your 4 cyl has duel exhaust then I guess go ahead.

Yeah dumb idea. I was jus thinking bout it. My brother's got a 90 Cherokee, just put dual's on it, with a flowmaster 40 series dual outlet muffler. Sounds damn good, so I was jut thinking, I'm gonna put a 4" tip on the zuk and leave the cherry, that'll be nice.

Actually it's not a dumb idea, I was just saying that because I felt dumb for asking the question. I've talked to a couple of car experts and they don't seem to think that it's a dumb idea. It should workout pretty cool, and a lot of people are starting to put duals on 4 cyls. Might only be a 1.6, but it should be pretty cool, my idea is to be different from everybody else. So far the area that I live in, I'm the first one with a lifted sidekick, 5". I'm gonna be the first with duals, might not be true duals with two mufflers like my 5.0 HO 302 Lincoln Mark VII, but it'll be different. Now I want people to post their opinions on why they think it's dumb or pointless, I know it won't be as loud as my current cherrybomb, but it'll still have some sound to it. So post ur opinions. No matter what's said I've made my decision, I just wanna know why most zuk freaks like myself are against it.

Sometimes too much is not good. I have a single 21/4 pipe through a convertor and a raven muffler and a 41/2" tip and it sounds good. A bit loud but i don't mind

There is nothing wrong with duals, the only question is if it's worth the investment if all you are looking for is more power.  There is room for a 2.5 or 3" exhaust underneath the Sidekicks if you want to run that large of an exhaust.

If you want a true dual exhaust, you need to get a custom exhaust header with two pipes out of it instead of a single one.  That way you actually have the two separate exhaust pipes with an x connector (or something similar, see an actual exhaust tech for real terms) between them.  But you can just cheat and run 2" or 2.5" off of your header and then split into two 1.25" pipes out each side of your rig.

Reminds me of the old Mad Max film.  Most of the pursuit cars only had 4 cyl, but they put dual pipes on the back of them anyway to make them look like V8's.  You can see exhaust only coming out of one side of the car most of the time.  :P

If you go for duals then you'll have to make the pipe smaller diameter to maintain gas flow.

I've seen a tracker once with duels tail pipes.  It sounded a little different but looked good.  And that's what the guy was going for, looks.

What I'm gonna do is get a original 40 series flowmaster with a center inlet and dual outlet, and run two pipes out of the muffler to the back. I'm pretty excited about it. Gotta save up a little $$ though cuz I'm about to buy 31's for my kick, but I'm still gonna do the exhaust. Yeah I aim to be different from others. If everybody is the same it's just no fun you know? It will look nice coming out the back of my kick and sound decent too.

I wouldn't dual a 4banger.

I plan on installing duals on the Gv V6, but using stock pea-shooter diameter Sammy tubing to maintain enuff backpressure.  I also want it to be quite.  Loud pipes might be cool when mall crawling, but nothing gives you a headache faster than following a rig on a trail ride with a cherry bomb.

Or maybe an oil-burner with a cherry bomb. :laugh:

Well that's your opinion and I appreciate it but, people are dualing four cylinders everywhere now. Not only the big V8s anymore. Everybody's putting duals on everything now. I know it'll be cool, different too. I'm excited

A nice easy way to do it.  :)  Are you going to run them both out the back?  You might have to move things around to get around the gas tank...

Sounds like a good plan. A number of single cylinder motocycles have dual exhausts (one per valve). This is done to get the best possible flow and still meet noise regs. Two smaller silencers are more efficient and easier to fit than one large one.
