Injector noise
« on: November 26, 2005, 05:21:06 PM »
I recently bought a 94 4 door Sidekick with a 16v and have been going through things getting it up to my liking. It has had a miss under load from about 2000rpm and up. I have done a complete tuneup and ran a few jugs of cleaner through the fuel system as well as some intake cleaner down it's throat. Today I noticed that I was getting a lot of injector noise while giving it intake cleaner with the rpm's at about 2000rpm and up. I'm pretty sure that they shouldn't be noisy like that, correct me if I'm wrong as I'm new to 16v motors. If they are in fact bad does anyone have a set of good injectors that they could sell me or is there a way to repair or rebuild them?
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer :)

There is a solinoid on the front of the engine that makes alot of clicking noise on mine and a few other things in there also that make noise from time to time but I don't remember hearing my injectors making any, having them cleaned would not make them quiet, there are several places that do clean them I have seen them for about fifty bucks for all four and they replace the screens in the top of them that rust out and the o rings. oh ya they will batch check them if you ask them but you cannot rebuild them you have to get new if bad,I think there around 139.0 to 169.00 each.

my 8v out of an 89 has a very loud injector but only when i turn on the lights... im guessing it richens up the fuel to keep the revs or? i find it kinda weird...

That sounds more like the Idle Speed Controller, it lets more air through the bypass passage to keep the revs up.

Mine has always done the same thing, I put a cone filter on it and now when you turn on the lights or blower fan it sounds like a midget with a rubber hammer under the hood.  I might have to go back to the stock airbox.

The idle speed does not get any faster, it just has a wierd echoish ducka ducka ducka sound .  Its actually quite annoying.

Its not supposed to, the Idle Speed Controller keeps it constant, without it the revs would drop. Under load it lets more air through which is the same as using just a tiny bit of throttle.

Every 89 I've seen does that.   Does anybody have any more info on the 16v injectors? :(

Biker, if you need something to compare it to you can swing by and check out ours.  It is a 92 with the 16 valve.

Can you use an injector off a later model that might be quieter?  Never really thought about that, I just assumed they all did that.
