home made 95-98 rear window bar tabs...
« on: June 24, 2009, 12:32:37 PM »
i posted up a while back on several forums asking for anyone to post pics of the rear window bar mounts... so i would at least have some idea of what i needed to work on. well... i got no response...

so.
here are a few pics for you guys with busted mounts. i made my own out of flat bar stock that i had gotten from Home Depot some time ago. basically, i bent it up, so that there was roughly 1 1/2" between the bends. the bend at that top is made with the new "tab" fitting fully into the window bar. with the tab torqued down on the inside bolt, it sits roughly 2" from the body. it's easily adjusted with a hammer.  ;D

that said, here are a few pics

Looks good.  Probably a bit easier to remove then stock as you don't have that clip holding it in place.  :)

with the gate closed, it sits in there snugly. with the gate open and the top on with the window zipped up, it still fits perfectly. the gate rattles more than the bar does....

Neat mod to make it work, seems a common prob on the softops.
To shut the gate rattle up, the circular rubber bumper under the latch on the gate is on an eccentric. I turned mine +/- 20* & no more gate rattle!! :D Takes a little tug to open now, but I like that much better than it rattling... I hate rattling!!  :P

I have been trying to find just 1 set of the clips to give to my CNC guy to make a few, but no one seems to have any that are not broken.

It's too bad a company hasn't started re-popping these. I think everyone's are broken! Mine were, I got a used replacement set, and they're cracked now, too.
