Dumb question #4
« on: April 15, 2011, 09:33:40 AM »
Anybody know if the wheel "flange" will interchange between a 'kick and a Sammi? Trying to "po' folk" a Sammi front axle into something that I can use.

Are you talking about the lockout hub?

Yes but you might need an extra gasket if it's too tight

No, not the lockout, but the actual "hub" that the bearings go into and the rotor slips on to before you bolt the wheel on to it. I have one that I can post up to show what I am asking about if that would help...?

Kick and Sammy will NOT interchange.
Sammy uses old style trailer style bearings that you need to pre-load then back off 1/4 turn... the track/Kick hubs use a 2 row torque to load system that torque to 150+ ftlbs.

 Yeah, that was what I was kind of putting together.  >:(  It is amazing how hard it can be to track some these odd parts down. I am thinking that maybe I should sell the mostly there Sammi axle and just go run down an old CJ axle. THOSE are all over the F'n place around here...

FYI,

To "SET" Sammy front wheel bearings;

Make sure to remove & tie off brake caliper.

1st torque to 57 ft lbs while turning hub in a forward rotation,   back off just enough to release "Load"

2nd Re-Torque to 11-12 ft lbs again while rotating hub in a forward rotation.

Secure with lock tab washer.

Set lock nut to 60-65 ft lbs. check hub rotation for smoothness,

Secure with tab on same lock tab washer sandwiched between nuts.

You should be good to go!!
