96 geo tracker po 335 crank sensor malfunction
« on: January 05, 2016, 05:08:33 PM »
Hello and thank you in advance.
I have a 96 4 door tracker po335 crank sensor code. When I replaced the sensor I noticed there was a wire that was rubbed bare by the ground protecting cover and seemed to be grounding so I repaired it and examined up the wire about 10 inches to make sure there were no other bare spots. I replaced the sensor but it still didn't have any power and the troublecode came back. I replaced with another sensor and it didn't fix the problem.
I get ohm reading through the wire so I think it is ok. Any ideas?  ECM???

Also I have a 92 sidekick and the tracker, both 5 speeds, has lower gear ratio. Does anyone know if the ratio difference is in the tranny or the diff. ?
I thought all 5 speeds had the 5.12/1 gear ratio my tracker runs 450 rpm higher at 55 in 5th gear than my sidekick.

I have the same issue with my 1996 Geo Tracker 1.6 16V Automatic 4x2, and have run the gauntlet on trouble shooting.  Once I clear the code, it comes back within about 1/2 a second of starting the car.  I've ohmed out the wires to the ECM (fine), checked them on the oscilloscope (5-6V signal is consistent),  I've bypassed the old wires and rewired (no change), replaced the sensor (no change), shaved the sensor down to get closer to the tone wheel (no change), removed the oil pan gasket (no change), checked the timing at idle and at running temperature (-2 to -5 TDC at idle), checked alignment of the timing marks when not running (-1 TDC when cam notch/dot is aligned), check the tone ring (6 teeth). The car runs great, no problems, just this stupid P0335 code.  Has anyone figured this out?  What solution did you use or run across.  I'm at my wits end and I can't get a vehicle inspection due to this code.
