Driving impressions on BDS 2" lift for Trackicks
« on: January 29, 2006, 02:08:19 PM »
I have had a quite a few folks ask me what lift I used on my Tracker...  I used the BDS 2" spring/shock/strut kit, it gave me close to 2.5 inches at the wheel of lift.

Had the Tracky off road for first time this weekend, and put the BDS 2" kit to the test.

I must say, I think it is a little overpriced, but I opted for the optional "revalved" struts up front for a whopping $107 each.. not sure that they are noticably different than Gabriel Ultras in trail situations (the BDS units are indeed revalved Gabriels anyway)

SO, without that price, I supposed the $300+ I paid for the rest of the kit was OK.

The kit comes with a quality set of machined screw on strut extentions, although I did have to ream one a bit to get it to fit.... ::)  they fit snugly, and with some locktite applied, I don't think they are going anywhere.

The kit has springs that measured 2" longer than my stock springs, not sure if I had spring sag to start with or not, the Tracky had 125K on the clock when I saved it from the junkyard..

It also comes with a camber correction bolt for the strut mount..

The rear shocks that came with the kit are at least 2.5" longer total, with a nice long stroke, exceptional shocks for the money, in my opinion. They ride well on and off road. I hit some rutted out trails at speeds that the lifted Jeep guys didn't want any part of... too rough for them... I admit, it WAS a bit bumpy, but I still have my fillings.. :P

I wish I had gotten some shots of the stuff and droop on the rear after the kit, I have to say it is perfect for a set of 235x75's  the tire stuffs up nicely in the rear fender well without dragging badly, and the droop side JUST gets the spring a little loose, no chance of it coming out, but getting all the flex you can get with this set up.. nice shocks.

The front is a bit stiff, but still, nice stuts, and the springs are of high quality, quite beefy.

Overall, I am satisfied with the purchase and ease of installation on the BDS kit, I had it on in an afternoon, in my driveway, with hand tools, jacks.... by myself.

Sorry, no pics this time....  lol...   I was too busy wrenching and having fun driving to shoot the pics..

I must say,  the springs gave me over 2" of lift, close to 2.5 at the wheel.  The kit rides just a bit stiff on the street, but you get used to it, and I am certain it will soften a bit over time, as the springs age.  Nice small lift for some decent capable tires (Buckshot mudders)

Here is a photo  of the stance of the BDS 2"  with 235's on an otherwise stock Trackick (before I painted it). and one of it from this weekend

Great daily driver and surprisingly capable off road trail machine (Just ask the Jeep guys, lol)

May I ask who you got the BDS kit from? I can't even get it that cheap and I have a wholesaler connection for BDS. I think they might be shafting me. So you got struts, shocks, springs and hardware for $514? That is a good price compared to anything my source ever quoted me.  >:(

Shredder, I typed 300+  and I mean it was PLUS...  I am thinking it was really closer to $400 sorry...  I am forgetting the total, but it was significantly more that $518....   I think with Tax and all, it was over $600, but I bought some other stuff that day.. so .. lemme see if I can find the reciept..

I don't think you are getting shafted.. I think I just under typed the price.. the + is a bigger than pennies plus...  lol..

These tires and wheels might be for sale..  stock aluminums with some hammerite paint on em.. lol.. and NICE Maxxis Buckshots 235/75  Just paid over $450 mounted and balanced.. will let them go WITH the wheels (if I get my new ones soon) for $300, plus shipping if no-one is close..
