Grille differences in 91-95 and 96-98 Sidekicks
« on: September 24, 2006, 07:39:26 PM »
I was looking on eBay for a new grille for my 98 Sidekick 4-door.  All of the parts dealers were advertising a grille for the 91-95 Kicks for around $35, while they listed the grille for the 96-98s for $129.  They look identical; does anyone know if there is a difference?

Thanks,
98kick

No, it's not the Sport model.  The grilles look identical, and they look identical to mine (minus the cracks where someone backed into me) >:(

No, the 91-95 kick grills have a piece that wraps around the top sides of the bumper and the 96 up grilles don't. The bumper is shaped differently.

I am not sure if they attach exactly the same, if they do, you could trim one to fit, maybe.

The 96 up grilles also stick out a about an inch from the front of the fenders, and the older style is flush.

I like the older style better, and may try to modify one to fit, once I get aftermarket bumpers on my 96, but without modifying the grille, and maybe even the bumper cover, it won't fit.

I like the front grille on my 1990. I parked next to what looked to be a 1993 sidekick, and noticed subtle differences in the styling. The 1993 has more curves to the hood whereas mine has a fairly flat hood. I also noticed that the later ones came with the UV blocking side windows, whereas mine did not.

Thanks for the info!  I still don't see where those subtle differences justify the huge difference in price--oh well. ???

Supply and demand, just like everything else.. lots of the older ones on the road that have broken grilles, and owners buying new.

The Trackers have the flat hood , while the sidekicks have the shaped hood, they also have different parking lights. kinda like the suzuki swift/ geo metro, the swift had the shaped hood, the metro has a flat hood, plus differnet tail lights.

I think suzuki just wants to make theirs a little fancyer cause it has there name on it.

Should be the year, my 93 Tracker had a flat hood and my 96 has body lines in it, BUT, I put a later model hood on my 93, so now they are both the same.

After I whacked a deer with my '96 Tracker, I put it back together with whatever I could find at the local "can yards".

I used an early model Tracker hood (flat style) and an early model Sidekick grill.  The hood bolted right up using the '96 hinges and latch.  The top center screw for the grill lines up, but the bottom screw locations are different.  I will fabricate some brackets for the bottom from some flat stock when I get time, but for now, it's wired in.

You can also see that I had to cut the "ears" off the grill to fit the '96 opening because the bumper cover comes up to meet the fender, where the old style grill wraps around between the (flat) bumper cover and the fender.
