99 tracker?
« on: June 14, 2009, 10:52:25 AM »
What are the specs for a 99 tracker?  Would this be a worthy rig for an engine swap for my sami?  Im looking to loose the tired 1.3 Asap!  Just wondering if this rig was worth it....800 bucks, 5speed, blown head gasket,4x4.  Seems like it might be cool.

Totally worth it, as long as the head gasket didn't smoke the bottom end.   Even if it is smoked, I'm sure you can make your money back parting it out.  I forget who makes it but I'm pretty sure there is a swap kit for the 2.0

I know nothing about the 2.0L, are they a reliable motor? Make good power? Aftermarket support?
My plan was to get a 1.6 16V, tranny and T-case and throw all that in my samurai.  I was really wanting to go duel T-cases, im not quite sure if the 99 tracker T case would mount up right.  But again I dont know to much about that new of a track.  Any info on this would be awesome!

Thanks

I don't know much about the 2.0s either, wish I could help.  As far as the dual T-cases,  I think the unimooki is getting duals but I don't know what trans he's using.  The setup that's going in the mooki looks like it may be a little long for a sammi though.

I guess ill just have to go check this tracker out...this is if its still up for grabs.  Im going to be hurting for space just with a 1.6, tranny, and T-case.  I dont think i will have to much more room for anything, ill just go take some measurements.  Thanks for the info

What I understand is that you can squeeze an 8V 1.6, motor, tranny, & tc in front of your tc.  To get the 16V 1.6 to fit you need to either body lift, or modify hood to get it to fit motor in; tranny, & tc will fit in front of your tc.  Not sure of the 2.0, but you may need to move your tc back a couple of inches to squeeze it in front of it.

I do not remember whether you did a body lift with your build.  I enjoyed the write up.  Looking forward to this.
