So I used to get 280 miles on a tank and then one day when i filled up it had dropped to only 180 a tank I have looked in to all sorts of thing that could affect it but it burns clean it passed emissions with getting that kind of milage and looking at the results the hc's are normal any ideas?

I do not remember how big my tank is, but I am thinking around 6-7 gallons. If my recall is true, he would be getting about 45 MPG.

The last time I checked, I was getting around 28 MPG, which would be about 170 to 180 miles per tank of fuel.

My idea is that you used to get 180 miles per tank, not 280.

If he has the 11 gal tank 280 miles comes to 25 mpg
9 gal comes to 31 mpg

11 gal 180 miles= 16mpg :(
9 gal =20mpg

witch came with what tanks?
sami = 9 gal???
2 door trackick = 9 gal????
4 door trackick = 11 gal?????

The size of the tank is irrelevant, when figuring MPG.  Simply take the miles driven divided by the number of gallons of gas you put in to fill the tank........that is by far the most accurate way to figure MPG....not by miles driven and tank size. ::)

Agreed.
To go a step further, log your next ten fill ups and average them. This helps to smooth out inconsistencies in highway/city driving as well as how full you actually filled your tank.

Only problem with this technique is that you have to FILL the tank.  :(

Here I can add to the craziness.....
I have been running E85 for 4 or 5 months.
NOT pure E85 mind you.  I read somewhere where they took a non flexfuel Tahoe and ran E85 in it for 100,000 miles.  Then They dismantled the engine and found a clean engine with no ill effects.  I then read about people running 30% ethanol in Minnesota, for a reason I cannot remember, with no ill effects.  So I have been mixing the E85 with 100% gas to make a 30% mixture, in both the 95 kick, and 2002 Town and Country.  I cannot detect any diffrence in power or mpg in the T&C.  The Kick seemes to have less power, but my age old freeway on ramp test shows no diffrence.  I might get 1 or 2 mpgs less, but winter time driving really kills my mpg, so its been hard to be sure.  Now that the weather is warmer, I will be able to get a true test.  Here where I live, the E85 varies between 80cents to  1.20 less than regular gas. 
I would be interested in reading about diesel in gas, but since diesel costs WAY more than gas, whats the use?

Is any of this possible from a faulty EGR system and/or bad 02 sensors?  My mileage has dropped too...yet the truck drives great.  I now know my EGR valve was stuck open so the truck ran really rich, and since i can't figure out where the tubes on it go i can't tell you yet if the new EGR fixed the problem or not.

I have been checking my mileage every time i fill up it has gone up to about 19-21 mpg so it has gone up but not any where close to what it used to be. my tank is 10.5-11 gallons

my 4-door auto 2wd always gets about 23-24mpg


i think 2-door manual 2wd gets the best mpg as ive heard claims of up to 35mpg

It doesn't take much idling in traffic, driving against the wind or running the ac more often than before to blow 5mpg. 

Edit:  Okay, 5 is a bit much, I guess.

I just picked up almost 2mpg by...finally...airing up my tires.

Yes both of those items will cause problems. Remember that EGR is only supposed to come on while crusing. A EGR valve that sticks open will cause the truck to run lean because it is letting more "air" into the combustion chamber. This can lead to detonation at lower speeds. The O2 sensors job is to tell the computer how much O2 is in the exhaust. That is how the computer determines how long to fire the injectors for. So if your EGR valve is stuck open the O2 sensor will read a lean mixture and tell the computer to add more fuel. Also if the O2 sensor is old and always reads lean then you will be running rich all the time. On the 8 valves the EGR passages run through the intake manifold and the head. Not to sure about the 16 valve though. The best way to find out would to put a scanner on the car and watch the data stream from the computer.
