Fuel problems??? Maybe.....?
« on: June 28, 2004, 10:56:03 AM »
Well today I went to leave work and I noticed that my tracker started a little harder than normal....I thought that was rather odd. So I went to leave and she just bogged and sputtered a little bit. I limped her home and talked to Zig for a minute. He said he had the same problem and it was plug wires, So I went and got some new wires. That didn't fix it, pulled the distributor, dry as a bone. Pulled the air cleaner, dusty but by no means clogged. This leads me to believe its a fuel problem. Cause it will idle fine and rev ok with no load on the motor but once you try to drive its a no go. I just did the fuel filter not that long ago. So I dont think that is a problem. Which leads me to believe that it is the fuel pump or the fuel pressure regulator. Any other ideas thoughts or opinions are greatly appreciated. GOod thing its nice for some of this week so I can take the bike to work. Hopefully she will be back in action before the week is out.  :-/

It could still have a crack in it.  It doesn't take much moisture to cause a problem, but I think you'd have a problem at idle too if it were the cap.

How do the plugs look?

Is there any chance you crimped or bent a fuel line during your body lift?

THe problem seems just too sudden for it to be something like that, cause I just drove about 350 miles yesterday and it never skipped a beat. and i drove to work this morning fine, but the ride home was a different story.

I have the same problem with a 95 16 valve 4 door. Ends up that it is the throttle position sensor. I unplugged it, and it runs better, not as much power or mileage, but it has taken care of the driveability problem. Try unplugging the TPS and see how it drives. If that isn't the problem, maybe it's the computer.
Hope that helps.

Did you get bad fuel that day maybe?  Could someone have put something in the tank?  :-/

How's the exhaust coming out of the tailpipe?  Could it be a clogged converter?

The distributor isn't loose and hasn't turned to change the timing, has it?

If you have the single injector in the throttle body, you could pull the air filter plenum off and see if there's a nice conical spray, like there should be, coming out of the injector.

??? ??? ???

THought it might be fuel, So i went to the gas station and filled up. Doubt somebody put anything in my gas tank but its possible. Also Its a 16 Valve, already checked the injectors. Nothing there. Going to do a filter tonight, cat isn't plugged cause I gutted it. Gonna price out a new regulator and pump today and see how much that stuff is going to run.... :-/ :'(

This may be a long shot but when you get through all the simple quick and easy fixes check your crank to cam timing. The reason being my youngest sons zuk started acting funny all of a sudden a while back,it started with a hickup(not really a backfire just a little pop) after that it ran like crap. Anyway after hours of doing all the easy stuff we decided it was more serious. What had happened was in its previous owners life the bottem pulley had worked loose and widened the key way slot causing it to be miss timed with the cam pulley. They retimed it but didnt fix the problem Like I said a long shot but when all fails. Good luck M.Z.

try to see if a 8 Valve and 16V fuel pumps are the same. if so george has a bunch of pumps.
