2" Coil Lift
« on: January 26, 2011, 05:19:03 PM »
Hey Everyone, just joined this site. Really Cool.  I just received my 2" coil spring lift kit in the mail.  Do I really need a spring compresser to install this kit?  I have read where others have installed these kits without a compresser.  I don't have one and have no friends with one either.  I guess I can rent one but do I really need to.  Thanks,  John

Welcome John. You don't need a spring compressor to install the kit. It has been a while but I think I remember just unbolting the top of the strut and pushing the lower control arm down, (you will have to unbolt the sway bar too) installing the spring or spacer, then gently pushing it all back up with a floor jack and bolting the strut back in at the top.  With the rear, I got the jack stands under the frame rails and was able to push down on either end of the axle far enough to install the spring spacers. Be careful and use jack stands. Post a pic when you are done- we love pictures!

no need for any spacial tools the lower control arm will hang down vertical if you take the lower ball joint off. who's kit did you get? did you just get the coil spacers or did you get a rear diff 3rd link drop or strut spacers. if you didnt get the strut spacers you can flip the top strut mount. if you didnt get camber bolts you will have to grind out the strut hole to get everything aligned right. good luck
