Yes the tube in front of the tank is common rust area.  My tube was rotted clear through the middle and that tube has the mounts for the gas tank.  I dropped the tank and cut the tube out and then just used 2" square stock and welded it to the frame sides.  Then welded on some L brackets off the square stock to serve as the new tank mounts.  Worked great.  If you go that route you may want to check on your fuel filter situation.  Mine was rusted up so that the filter could not be replaced so I replaced the whole assembly with a generic filter.  Also check your front tube under the radiator that ties the front two A arms together.  Mine was also rotted out there and that tubing is very weak anyway.  If it flexes you will get bump steer or worse.  Its easy to get some round steel stock and pound it right through the original tube and weld on the sides.  This will strengthen the frontend for the first big rock you hit.  :^)

Ya I am no good at photo crap. I think the scale is off a bit, I lined up the 2 shots useing the tailgate of the Yota but the shop door was out, kinda a pain to remember exactly where I was standing etc 2 weeks ago, the front bumpers of the zuki are very close.  if you zoom into the front end of the Zuk('s) you can compare the font bumper hight.

my next set of mods are now in, I put in a 2" body lift, part home made part Sky lift.
the sky kit is ok, but add some bits to make it stronger if you do one, 2" square stock under the body rubs welded to the frame is what I added. if I had a lathe to make the female bolts I never would have ordered the Sky kit, way to pricy for what it had.
Then I raised the gas tank 2" it was a bit of work but needed to be done anyhow as the front gas tank mounts were rusted out, so I had to fix them anyhow, and may as well take more advantage of the body lift. it looks very nice.  I also got a lockrite in the rear. and my rear bumper is made but not installed yet.  soon as its on I will do another set of pics.
I am fabing up a new skid plate for the gas tank as well.

Well with the help here and other places I have done much, thougt I would share a bit.

I am building most of the bits myself (with some help) and scrounging wrecking yards and 4x4 internet sites.

Most of the designs are based on pictures from websites that sell the finished products. The links beside the mod are from those sites or sites that have documented the same or similar mods.

Done so far:

but I will not be doing the front axel mod that is on that page.

Pipe front bumper with winch.  http://www.trailtough.com/sidekick.htm

Skid plating front to rear. http://www.lowrangeoffroad.com/kickarmor.htm
