1.3 16valve swift GT
« on: May 10, 2005, 01:17:58 PM »
im interested in getting rid of my golf and getting a swift GT.
i checked one out yesterday, door and fender were smashed but the guy would include 2 new ones that are the same color...
anyway, he wants $1650cdn, and owns a wrecker with like 3 more of them, so anything i need i could probably squeeze into the deal

only problem is it ticks when running, it sounds like a sewing machine, just like my 88 sprint sounded like..

im PRETTY sure its the lifters, has anyone changed them before, or know what they cost, or know if this is even my problem?

tia, Andrew

 ;D Funny question,
Did you know that the Sprint was made by Suzuki also?
Did you know that the two engines are very similar ?

As far as the ticking, yes it's lifters, no you don't need
to change them, the engine just needs a valve adjustment, yes that's right, the Suzuki engines
of that era still have to be adjusted, no hydraulic
lifters in there

Good Luck, those 1.3 16V engines are supposed to
put out 100 HP, and are quite fast little cars

the swift GT motors are not similar to the 3 cyl sprint motors. the GT motor has twin cams and hydraulic lifter cups which have no adjustment. if the car has been sitting they can loose their prime and can take a while to pump back up. Or one of the oil ports in a lifter is plugged causing a restriction. you can solve some of that with an oil flush and clean fluids.

Check the rockers for rust. Also make sure it shifts smoothly the 1-2 synchro is notorious for going.

check out www.teamswift.net thats what they are all about! Sweet cars and with a few simple mods they are fast as most other compacts and handle better!
