Try adjusting it. If there is no free play in the pedal then the clutch might not be engaging the flywheel fully. If that doesn't work, you probably need to do the clutch. But hey, the transmission is small and light, Samurais/Trackers are tall enough to get under easily, and clutches are pretty easy to do(especially with a shop manual)!

At the end of the clutch cable connected to the trans. But sounds like the clutch is bad.  The cable adjuster would have to tighten up to make it slip. If it loosens up you can still drive it but its hard to shift. Hope this makes sense.

I have never pulled the trans on my sidekick but have pulled the engine about four freaking times. From looking at the bottom side with the married transfer case and linkages and the shift tower and everything else you would have to pull I would almost say if you had a cherry picker it would be easier to pull the engine to change the clutch. I just use a chainfall from the rafters in the garage and remove the hood.
I put a trans in a samurai once and it was pretty easy because it has a divorced transfer case but the tracker/kick would be more involved than that. What does everyone else think?

Sounds like the clutch went out to me. Same thing happened to me when mine went out. Came home the night before worked fine and everything, next day get in start to drive away and I had to rev up just to get somewhere. This being my first manuel car and also first car I had no idea what it was. So i just drove to the shop to avoid a towing charge but it ended up going out about a block away lol

It is much easier to pull a tracker or sidekick engine to change the clutch but once you pull it the clutch only takes 10 min  to change
