Factory gear ratio #2
« on: December 03, 2007, 08:44:45 AM »
I posted this in the other factory gear ratio post but I thought it might be getting lost to people that have already looked at that post and one of them might have this info!
How about someone posting what year, engine ,tranny had what gears so we may have a better idea what to look for .And also what will fit in a sidekick/tracker or what won't.This is as close as I could come with the search,....posted by ZeusZuki ....Vits came out with 4.3 / 4.56 / 4.88 / 5.13 / 5.63 ratios stock ( again from memory   ) but most 1600's are 5.13.

Good luck.

5.13's came in 5 speeds,

5.63 only came on 1989 1.3 carbed Sidekicks,

5.38 came on early 4 door 5 speeds 91-95,

4.63 came on 89-94 3 speed automatics,

4.30 came on 92-95 4 speed automatics

4.88 came on 99-03 automatic Grand Vitara's

Some of the other gear ratios are are available in second generation Vits as well.

http://Car-Part.com makes a great parts interchange guide. just look at the part you want then click years at the top of the listing, all the years that fit will be listed in order.

The 4.30 ratio only came in the 16v auto 3speed, 1995, I think.

Because in 91 the 4 door manuals were 8 valve motors.  In 92 they went to 16 valves and the 5.12gears.

Actually afore mentioned is right but 5:38's were offered for more than just one year. It may have been offered more to the california models for a longer time span.

I hate to throw a wrench in the info stated already (which was mostly correct) but I have a '95 4 door 4 speed auto that came with 5.12's. And the '91 4 door 8 valves manual trans I can conform at 5.38 as I have pulled diffs out of 2 different trucks and that's what the ratio was.

My info applies only to 89-98 trackicks.....99+ trackicks may or may not be different.

The 4.30 ratio only came in the 16v auto 3speed, 1995, I think.

The 4.30 ratio came in any trackick with the 16V and a 3 speed auto.

5.38s ONLY came in the 91, 4 doors, with a 5 speed......all 91 4 doors came with the 8V engine.

What other years had the 16v and 3 speed auto? I thought they went to 4 speed after that.

I think that the 3 speed was available with the 16V up until 98 at least.  I am 99% sure that it was not a 95 only option....edit: in fact I know it wasn't, because I have seen a 96 2 door with a 3 speed auto.
