strengthening sidekick ifs with xl7 axles
« on: April 25, 2005, 01:06:02 AM »
has anyone tried strengthening the front ifs with xl7 axles? it should fit right in without or with minor modification.

the xl7 axles are designed for a greater torque and hp. it should be a lot stronger than that of stock.

Yup they are, steel But if you just swap them in you might have a problem with the gear ratio. Don't know what they are on a stock XL-7 but I think you should put your own R&P back into them.

Most all the pieces are the same. The improvements would be the Steel center housing and steel third member. Both of which will bolt in. The following article from the ZUKIWORLD archives shows us using a XL7 steel center section and an GV manual third member. The XL7 third member will work as well and actually has a better "snout mount" but you will need the mounting brackets as well to bolt it to the crossmember.

by using the anvil or gv steel center housing and 3rd member the weakest link will be the cv's.

im thinking that instead of using ford explorer or maxima axles why not use xl7's. since they are easier to adapt and the should be stronger that stock.
