Bad Vibrations
«
on:

I have recently purchased a 88.5 tin top and there is a bad vibration in the front end, when you hit about 40-50. Then it goes away. I thought it was the steering stabilizer, so i replaced it and nothing happened. Any ideas?

Perhaps you have lost a wheel weight off of the front right or left rim which comes to life at 40-50 mph.
Rotate the wheels front to back and see if it changes . . .

make sure the tires are balanced and then if that doesn't help you need to rebuild the front end. The kingpin bearings are probably the cause to your problems. While you are taking it apart just replace everything. Felts, seals and re-grease it all.
When you get to the birfield joints take all the old grease out and re-pack it. I've found that taking the axle off is the best way to get all the grease out.. it's also alot easier to repack and get it in all the parts.
I've only ever found one way to safely remove the axle....place a pipe just a bit bigger than the axle into a vise and drop the axle into the pipe. When the birf hits the pipe it will drop the axle out. It doesn't drop in the first try but keep trying. If there is any rust in the joint then it's alot harder but possible.

Could a bent steering arm do that? One has a little bow in it.
