strut extension dimensions...
« on: June 12, 2006, 07:56:56 PM »
anyone have the dimensions of the bds(or other) strut extensions?  like the length(overall, thread, etc) diameter and anything else that would help having them machined?  thanks

Some members looked into having some machined.  Nothing really happened with that because it was going to cost more than BDS charges for them.

I had some made a few years ago before anyone was selling them (apart the ones in the Calmini kit).  I designed them to be pretty strong but I think they are actually way over engineered. One day I will turn a pound or two off them. The drawing is linked below, I had to file the top to get it the right shape to fit into the strut tower, if you have a look on my site under mods, lift there is a pic of the strut with the spacer fitted. The other thing that I would change is that I would add a couple of slots on the bottom to let water out. I got the hole centres by shimming the mount and placing it on to the spacer then drilling through. Holes are threaded M8 x 1.25.

It would be a lot cheaper to fabricate something like the Calmini spacers

I TRIED TO HAVE THEM MADE UP FOR ME IT WOULD TAKE TO MUCH TIME $50. PLUS TAX AND YOUR DONE.  THEY WERE FUN TO PUT ON TO ABOUT 40 MIN W/ THE DREMEL TAKEING DOWN THE INSIDE, 1 NEW STRUT MOUNT AND I WAS DONE. WORTH EVERY PENNY

Dave doesn't sell front strut extenders, just rear shock extenders.
Wish I had known about him about 7 months ago, there's some good looking stuff in there...

well you get the dimensions and they're cheaper than the average of $40 price i'd take a set.  how much do you imagine the material would cost you?

He sells strut spacers similar to the ones Calmini include with their 3" kit.
