cam lenth?
« on: June 08, 2008, 04:16:18 PM »
Hi guys,

Im building a 1.6 8valve motor for my sammy! I went to put the new cam in on the weekend every thing went well until i went to put on the Dizzy. The cam gear rubs on the cap?? When i pulled the cam ot its about an 1/8 inch to long? IS this normal? It just a new stock replacement cam! is there any difference between the years? Is the cam for a 1.3 the same as the 1.6? Just looking for some ideas? My parts store was closed so i could not find out anything from them!

Tom

I have heard of cams being different lengths. There may be a difference between 1298 and 1326cc cams. I've also heard of one cam where the cam gear was not pressed on properly. Are you trying to fit a 1.3 cam to a 1.6 head?

The distributor drive housing is different from a 1.3 to a 1.6, you likely have
a 1.3 housing on the 1.6 head, the parts do interchange from one head
to another, and they look identical, but the rubbing says different.
