99 tracker 16. 16 valve
« on: May 02, 2007, 05:16:01 PM »
I just picked up one CHEEP and wanted to make sure its the same motor as the older models and will work in my sammi?? It is 2wd, so will the tranny fit (with the little massage on the tunnel) Can I just use the entire wire harness and computer OR can I use a modded harness like the earlier 1600, sorry for all the question just getting exited about getting the motor in the sammy. THanks

I thought the way you did that swap was with an adapter from here http://www.rocky-road.com/1600swap.html  and used the factory installed trans in the Sami. Being that the donor tracker it is that new I would say you would have to use the whole harness but I may be wrong.

Usually the 16V harness is stripped of all the extras wires and then then piggy backed to the existing loom. There are a few vendors that sell the adapter plate, it may be possible to use the Tracker tranny but its not a straight swap.

You don't need an adapter if you are useing the tracker 2wd tranny, I just need to know if the newer 16valve is the same as the older ones or if they might have changed something.

Not sure about this, Sean at Aftermarket4x4 might be able to advise.

Thats cool, do you need to do anything to the driveshaft that goes to the t-case? ie, shorten or change yokes?

The tracker tranny is a slip yoke, all you have to do is shorten the shaft to sammi size in stock location
