Finally mounted speakers in my Kick
« on: June 18, 2006, 06:13:50 PM »
I've been putting off mounting some 6x9s in my kick ever since installing the stereo a few months ago. During that time there was at least one thread discussing how and where to mount speakers in these trucks so I thought I'd share some photos. See below. Three things struck me as I resized these for posting:
- I really need to wash my Sidekick
- I need to paint the interior in the desert tan to match the exterior
- I wonder if I installed both grills upside down?

The sheet metal was some scrap that was laying around, slightly thicker than body panels but not much. I ran a thin bead of RTV behind it to cut down on rattles. Unfortunately everything else rattles...

Just the other day I took all my speakers out! I taped all the wiring under the carpets and just left my deck and 2 tweeters. I love how empty my zuke is without all my sub boxes, amps, and other attached speakers. I have to build some better boxes for my subs so that they are out of the way. Does any one have any design ideas for a four door? And hey, all my subs are waterproof!! I thought that was a cool feature. Has anyone mounted speakers below the seats or in the center console area? Pics would be appreciated!

It's definitely nice not having a sub box back there.  I took mine out a few weeks ago to carry some crap to the landfill and it made a huge difference.  I've been intended to build a box to get it out of the way and more to the side, but i may just give up and do no sub.

I've mounted 6x9's like that before and been very happy with them.

I'm pondering a sub in the tailgate. I will probably need a lot of sound deadening mat to line it with if it is ever going to sound good. I'm still trying to figure out a good spot to mount an amp where it wont get wet.

I've got two small subs, 8-10" or so, that I need to do something with.  Actually, those two and their amp.  Prior owner just set the amp on the tranny hump behind the front seats and the subs are in two small boxes just rattling around in the back.  If I stop at all hard guess what two objects come flying forward?

Thinking about moving the subs into the area where gravity mounted his 6x9's and maybe securing the amp to one side of the interior further forward.  Would mounting the amp vertically instead of horizontally pose any problem?  I don't think it would but then this is my first amp...

This guy was just mechanical enough to be dangerous.  I'm surprised nothing has caught on fire yet...

10 years ago, no 15, nevermind how long ago; I was bit by the LOUD stereo bug. I ran 3 Rockford Fosgates in my Cutlass. Anyway the thing about amps then and now is plenty of air flow over them to keep them cool. Horizontal or vertical is fine as long as they don't overheat. Currently I have an amp mounted (but not connected) under the passenger seat. Since there is no doubt in my mind (or anyone else that knows me) that my Zuki is destined to go in the drink, I have to find something above the water line.  ;D

All I'd do is mount the thing to the side of the interior behind one of the speakers and above the step in the body where the footwell is.

I looked at it a bit more tonight while waiting for my class to start and oy, I need to just disconnect the thing for now... :P

i have a 12" sony explode sub and a 400watt amp installed in my tracker.   i built the box for it myself and just built it so it fits in the "cargo" area behind the rear seat(oh 2door soft top btw).  it sounds pretty dang good actually.  i used to be a big car stereo freak lol so it was the first thing i did.  plus i need my music.  not necessarily loud but just to sound good.  it's ok for now but i plan on getting some new speakers to replace the stock rear ones.  oh my amp is located in the "cargo" area also.  i just have it nice and neatly sitting on the floor for now but i do plan to build a little shelf/rack back there so i can set the amp on the bottom rack for airflow(gotta get it off the carpet) and also so i have some actual storage space, how ever little it may be, lol.  still helps though because right now i can't put anything back there on top of the amp.  i'll try to take a few picks if anyone is interested.  nothing special, i haven't even carpteed the box yet either.

i was going to install the subs in the tail gate and so i went to an installer friend form work and the first thing he told me to do is weld the tailgate shut.....???  it will rattle so much it will take away from even doing it in first place....so I scratched that Idea.but you can do a single sub and amp rack in a fake floor behind the back seat. have a steel grille over the sub and a fan system for the amp to keep it cool. done that in the past for some hatch backs.
