2001 VS 2002 XL7 HP ratings?
« on: February 28, 2004, 05:04:52 AM »
What did Suzuki do to bump up the HP on the 2002 and up model XL7's? Things appear to be the same externally,so did they just remap the ECM? ???

The exhaust has been changed. You can get the new headers and pipes from zuki for around 350.00.

It was called the "power up" modification.  Included larger bore exhaust, larger capacity muffler and free flowing cats.  The dealer or DSM should have a paper print out witht the details.

Thanks for the info. I will have to take a look at them and see how they changed them(bigger tubes etc.). Being that the precats are connected last time i checked Suzuki wanted over 750.00 a side for the 2001 manifolds. I would probely buy them off of carpart.com. if there changed that much to make a difference. I have 2 spare ECM's one for the 2001 and a 2002,if the pins are in the same place i will try the 2002 ECM first.

Screw cats.  Knock them out.

Better, custom dual exhaust.

Originally i had the precats knocked out,but with the OB2 system the first oxygen sensor reads the mixture coming out of the motor and the second one after the cat reads it again and if theres no change or its too rich it will lean up the mixture so that would kinda defeat the reason to knock them out.
I thought about a dual system also, but i would need to fabricate a new trans. crossmember because theres no cut out on the passenger side for the exhaust.
For now i will gut the final cat and see how that goes.
Trying to find some easy and low cost mods, I got enough money stuck in this TOY as it is! ;D
