Nope!

The temp sensor is located on the front of the intake manifold in the thermostat housing below where the hose from the top of the radiator is connected to the engine.  There are two sensors there. the temp sensor is the smaller one closer to the  front of the engine.

Check to see if the connector is loose or dirty.  It pulls straight out from the sensor housing.  Be careful not to break the tab off!  If it is tight but corroded looking try putting some WD40 or a bit of cola (I'm a Pepsi man myself, but Coke will work too) on the connection to loosen things up.   You may have to peel back or remove the rubber boot -- what is left of it.

Also, If the temerature gage does not abruptly jump -- it takes a few seconds for the gage pointer to raise or lower to a new position, you may have a faulty thermostat.  Not hard to replace (fresh gasket required!).   It's under that dome next to the upper radiator hose connection.
