OEM body cladding
« on: November 01, 2012, 12:35:17 PM »
Hey all,
Has anyone tried this before?

There's a parts car for sale near me, a 97 Sidekick 2 door with the factory body cladding (looks like sport model but 2-door).
http://merced.craigslist.org/pts/3370938915.html
I don't even know why I thought of this but I was thinking of talking the guy into selling just the body cladding, having it crinkle-coated or otherwise painted black, and putting on my 90 2-door.

My 90 has the "early" model black plastic pieces on the rocker panels already.  I assume I would have to remove those, but other than that, will the rest of these pieces fit mine?  How do they mount on the sides of the body?

God put me on earth to accomplish a certain number of things.  Right now I am so far behind, I will never die.

If its the two door Sport then it will have the longer front fenders and hood.

I had a 1998 just like that one, that is stock body cladding in 1997 and 1998 the cladding is held on with plastic clips and two way tape. Get ready to drill a lot of holes  TShaw

the biggest problem is that the cladding provides a perfect breeding ground for corrosion. I want to remove mine, fix the corrosion and then simulate the cladding with WWIIOD green Monstaliner.

There is no such thing as a 2 door sport in the US.  At least not one that has a different hood and fenders than any other 89-98 2 door trackick

I can see it now, the link was blocked at work. That cladding is the same as that fitted on mine as well, TShaw is right, you will need to drill a lot of holes. It is fixed with a few screws and then it slides forward or backwards, I forget which, to unclip.

Eh screw it---I didn't consider the corrosion issue. not very drastic since they don't salt the roads here, but an issue nonetheless
Thanks for talking me out of this one, I'm busy enough as it is!

I like the two tone look of the body cladding, why not do as I plan on and simulate it with Monstaliner, no holes or corrosion to deal with.

With my luck I would have a whole shyt load of extra holes drilled and still not get it right!!! LOL

HAHA that's what I was thinking too!
I was going to to some 2-tone using camouflage vinyl wrap...I had a thread somewhere here with some paint-shop pics I made up of different patterns.  The gray/black/white urban theme looked good when I paint-shopped it onto the lower 8" of the truck!
eh,well, maybe I should devote that time towards my roof rack, or my overhead interior storage, or my "communication center", or other ideas...
