Samurai Carbs & Steep Angles
« on: April 05, 2008, 11:57:44 PM »
Hey Guys,
I'm looking to buy a Samurai and I'm wondering if I should rule out early carbed models.  I've never driven or wheeled a Samurai, do they have the same carb flooding issues as other carbed off road vehicles on steep angles?  Or do the Samurai carbs do ok?  Is there another reason I should only look at FI Samurais?
Thanks

Welcome.

I never had any proplems with the stock carb and angles. Even 90 degree angles. Luckily never had it on its lid. Fuel injection gives you a little more power and probably a smoother throttle response but I have never been in a fuel injected samurai.
86 sami 87 motor and a few other years in there probably, dana 44 rear,36"tsl. I once had splitfire spark plugs.

I have don't have big problems with the carb flooding out, i have gone up some pretty steep hills and it starts to glug a bit, but never flooded out.  The carb can handle a fair amount before it starts to die.
You can always flip the carb 180 degrees, or get a side draft carb.

As for the FI sami, i have seen them a couple of times.  Never seen one in action and i have never seen one for sale, but i could be looking in all the wrong places.
