Buying Bolts?
« on: April 30, 2007, 12:12:35 PM »
So where is a good place to get grade 8 bolts of SAE bolts?  How do you know if they are grade 8 or SAE.  Need to replace some broken ones to finish up the repairs.

There is a "Tool and Anchor" store in my town that supplies Grade-8 nut/bolts in just about all sizes. The bolts have a mark on the head that indicates the grade-8 rating, and they are usually gold in color.

You can tell the grade by looking at the marks on the head of the bolt or on the nut too washer surface of the nut. Off the top of my head I do not remember the markings. Some thing like 5 marks for grade 8 and 3 marks for grade 5. But as CRS has set in, do not quote me on that.

Any hardware store or a place like Fastenal, dont know if they have those in your area. I know the grade 8 bolts I use are gold colored while the grade 5 are silver, dont know if that is an industry standard though.

Osh Hardware, they have a great selection and they are cheap, like 23 cents for 1.5 inch long grade 8, but thats in California, I know tractor supply has them for sure but none close enough to me to know pricing or anything. Phloop has it right with the markings, also on the nuts it is 3 round dots for grade 8, a quick search should make it easier.
