91 trackick idling and wiring problems
« on: December 21, 2009, 07:48:48 PM »
I have a 91 Suzuki sidekick that has been sitting for about 5 or 6 years at the coast with a bad motor. I bought it and just got the motor in it lastnight. I don't know how to set the distributor trimming for one. I turned the key and it actually started on the old fuel. the first problem is that it idles way high, but the tach. doesn't work at all, so I don't know what its rpm is witch is my next problem. to try and solve the high idle I took off the box on the TBI that looks like it electronically adjusts the idle I guess when it is cold. it helped a little, but still not where it needs to be. as for the rest of the car it has electric window and I cant get them to work at all. the power mirrors work a Little. the heater fan, AC switch light, andthe wipers have no responce either. I am thinking I need to find the fuse box and clean all the fuse's. I had to use the starter off the old motor and put it on the new motor. when I went to start it it didn't turn over, so I took the end cap off and holy s*%t it was all rust in there, there was also sand in the motor (witch probably caused it to explode the bottom end), and the aluminum on the engine had a NICE layer of corrosion. I think it was probably in the ocean for a while or washit by a surf and just sucked a little water in it.

It sounds like you have a varity of shorts or wiring problems to look for. All that corrosion in the starter is a clue to check ALL electrics. Wish I could be more help.

Ya, clean all the fuses and the connectors that they go into.
Or at least pull them and look for corrosion, you might find the corrosion
is under the hood in the main fuse block, it's over by the battery, and
has big square fuses with a window in top of them, bet you have some
corrosion there after hearing how the starter was
