ZUKIWORLD Forum healthy again!!!
« on: December 17, 2004, 11:14:25 AM »
All,

It's always darkest before the dawn. After countless hours and lots of head scratchin', the problem(s) were tracked down and fixed. Thank you for your patience during these trying times.

Happy posting!

Any experience converting to, say.... smf?

I think I'm going to port over to that forum because it has a lot better features and I think, better support... Dunno yet. Still researchin'. I do know that I want to add a few mods or get a package that has some more features in it such as gallery, calendar, polls, etc... some of the stuff you can expect on the more fancy forums. ya know?

You might contact Derek Schwab (dschwab9), the Admin at Zuwharrie. They use SMF 1.0 CVS 20041113 and it seems to work well.

Eric, I converted the Zuwharrie forum to YaBB SE (the database driven version) about a year ago, then SMF when it was releases (it replaced YaBB SE).  It's the best thing I ever did.  Yabb is great for small forums, but for larger ones, the perl driven flat file database system just doesn't cut it.  When our traffic started to pick up, it got slower and slower and file corruption became common.  PHP/MySQL is definately where it's at for larger sites.   Been running SMF for over a year now, and we are currently generating over 600,000 page views a month with zero problems.  Give me a shout if I can be of any assistance.

The polls and calendar are built into SMF, and there's a couple of mods for gallery integrations.

I've recently become a fan of phpbb ... http://www.phpbb.com/features.php

Polls and calendar are easy. I applied a gallery mod to a phpbb I was using for a short time, but was a pain. I think later versions now have it built into the package.

A bud recently setup a phpbb and it had tons of features mine didn't. I'll find out where he got the package.

I was running phpBB for quite a while, but it's really a barebones forum system... I had a ton of mods for functionality, but IPB out of the box was soooo much nicer.
