They're so difficult to find, I won't build a project around them... in case they fail. It could take months to replace.

you might want to look into a gear reduction kit for the transfer case. There a lot easier to get. take a look at lowrangeoffroad.com. They have a 4.24:1 kit. I have it in my tracker and love it just have to low of gears in my axles now but I can rock crawl with it and still get in the mud and spin the tires even with the bigger aggressive tires that I have and a stock motor. But in 4lo and in drive I can only do 15 mph at 4000 rpm's could go with lower gears in my axles to get that a little better. I have the 5.13 in the axles now.
95 geo tracker sas with dana 30,35 axles 3.55 gears, 33 tsl's, 3 and 4 link suspension. stock motor trans, tcase has 4.24:1 reduction kit.

Do the t-case gear sets change only the low range or do you get reduction in high too? (noob question, I know ;D)

Im looking for some gearing options too, Cant really go much bigger than a 29", maybe 30" tire before power loss becomes a real problem, and highway driving gets almost out of the realm of reasonable possibility.

if ya always do what ya always done, you always gonna get what ya always got...

the 5.62 gears which came in the 89 sidekick 1.3L truck are still available from suzuki they are not particularly cheap but they are available and most likely stronger than the 5.83's
