dead tracker
« on: January 08, 2011, 10:06:48 PM »
Ok folks, my 92 tracker was running just fine until it just up and died. No cough, no gasp, just as if someone reached over and turned off the key. The first thing I checked was the timing belt, the distributor still rotated and appears to be in synch with the #1 cyl at tdc when firing. The fuel pump has pressure and we have spark. The engine starts if we pour a little fuel directly into the throttle body and quits when that fuel source is used up. The throttle body injector was bench tested and seems to work ok when power is applied. There does not appear to be any voltage coming from the wires that attach to the injector. The guy who is working on it for me is an absolute Toyota guru and is not that familiar with Suzuki products. He thinks that the trouble lies with either the "control or master" relay or the ECU. He is not sure of the location of the control relay. Does the tracker even have one, or is this just a Toyota thing? If it has one, where should he start looking for it? the Haynes manual is of no help. Any ideas on what to check next. Finally, is there a source for rebuilt or new ECUs or relays at a reasonable price.

Its a good thing I've got my Samurai to drive around.

It's the ECU, this is a common problem, the capacitors in the ECU
leak and the acid eats the copper traces, this is a simple fix, some
new capacitors and a soldering iron, or send it in for repair, should
be good as new
