Started a new venture.....1994 tracker rockers...
« on: April 06, 2008, 05:32:16 PM »
Well some of you know I run zuknation.net and trail ride a tracker.  Well I might be getting a new tracker soon for a new project that I will post pictures of course.  I also wanted to let everyone know that if you sell or buy on ebay and your sick of it you should check out http://4x4auctions.net We just started and you will get a free $5.00 added to your account if you join up.  Also it will take some time to get going to please be patient with the site, but its much, much cheapre than ebay.

So I smashed up my rockers pretty good, and cut them off and I am in need of some advice on what to do with the void its left behind.  I was thinking of just getting some tin and patching it up the best I can then build some rock sliders under it for protection? anyone got some pics of rockers replacement or patching?  sure would help.

Check out boatsiding, basically you cut all the unnecessary rocker, some even shave the doors. than angle a sheet of steel from frame to body. There is a current 4x4 mag out that talks about this mod. you may loose a little floor. Just a sugestion.

37kicker made a set of dimondplate rockers that you would weld in. he had a set in his old yellow rig and looked great. He has a set already made leaning against the wall last time I was there. Might be an option. :-\

I've seen someone here welded square tubing in the place of the rockers.  Check the archives.  I looked good when they were done.

What I did when my rockers got bashed and rotted was replace it with 2"x4" 1/8" wall rectangle tubing... I capped the ends to keep mud out and completely cut out the rockers and welded them under the doors and inside under the body to the factory lip on the inside of the rocker... This is by no means set for sliders but have seen others do something similar and weld the rocker to the frame.
Once I got the new rocker installed I trimmed the fenders in the front to match the angle I put at the front of the rocker.
Stock rockers measure 4"x4" aprox... By doing this it's possible to raise the body clearance by 2"... Gimme a bit and I'll take some pics for ya.

I am just beginning to do boatsides on my Tracker as the floor and body mount are rusted to almost nothing so I have to build it all from alomst scratch. I will be posting pics and info as I do it on this forum and my website. The cutting begins this weekend.

Wierd how these questions seem to come up just as you are about to do the samre thing!

We have some good pictures of using a piece of 2x4 as well from my Dad's rig..  However, I think a piece of 2x6 would work a bit easier.  I'll try to get some pictures on-line soon.

Do you know of any pics of this?  How well do you think they will hold up?  I would like to add some rockers, but I want as much ground clearance as possible.

On mine, I just cut the old rusted crap out and welded on 2x4 rectangular tubing, 1/8" thick. They work great and look great. I've bottomed out on them several times, no damage. An added plus is you can use a hi-lift jack on the side of your Sidekick now!
