1.6 SWAP HARNESS INFO????
« on: July 21, 2009, 10:18:10 AM »
does anyone have info and knowledge about modifying a sidekick EFI harness to run the motor in samurai... Is there any sites/threads that show you how to modify the haraness?  What is the normal path for swapping a 1.6 8 valve into a samurai and meshing the EFI harness and samurai stock haraness? Is this a common thing is there an easier way other then the obvious finding a EFI sammy haraness?

One of the vendors, I think it's Trail Tough but not positive, offers a complete conversion harness.
Other wise you'll need a harness, ecm, intake, throttle body, exhaust manifold ( or a header with an 02 sensor provision), and all the sensors that come with the Fuel injected engine. A gauge cluster from a Trackerkick would be nice as well but not necessary as you can wire in your own Check engine light. You'll also need a FI Sammy gas tank with built in fuel pump or a high volume electric inline pump and you'll have to run return fuel lines to the tank from the engine compartment.
It's not so bad if you can find a donor truck and just take everything you need fro the one truck otherwise it's a nightmare piecing it together.
You'll need to splice the engine/ecm harness into your Sammy's dash, accessory, and lights harness. You'll need Factory Suzuki manuals for both rigs and a good ruler and magnifying glass and it's just running the wires for length and matching the two together. It is very time consuming and you need to be very thorough and patient.
I have done one for the Swift Twin Cam and it took almost 2 week in the evenings and you need to be organized and focused. I will be doing a 1600 8 valve in the fall and intend to draw up new schematics for it and will be posting them up here.
All in all it's probably worth the dough to buy one already done from the vendors then there is no guesswork. There are guys here in Vancouver that make them and refurbish and upgrade the ecm as well but I assume you're from the USA.
I think I've covered everything but if I've missed something someone will step in with the info for sure.

Good luck and Cheers
