3/1 transfercase gear set??
« on: February 16, 2005, 06:37:47 AM »
Does any one know if any of the venders sells a 3/1 t/c gear set? I think that the 4/1 would be too low for my rig.

has any one heard of a 25-1 gearset? ;D HELLO MY NAME IS JASON AND I AM A GEAR REDUCTION ADDICT!!
now to be serious, I dont beleive that they make anything higher geared other than stock. What type of wheeling are you doing? if you are a easy wheeler then tou probably dont need to change out your t case gears. if you are trying to get a little more involved in the sport then t case gears are probably for you, you always have the option to shift up to the next higher gear(5 speed) or increase your engine speed(automatics) or if it is still to low for a certan obsticle you can use 4wd hi range . either way if you are going to increase the difficulity of the obsticals you face you wont regret having those lower gears!

I have two sammies and looking for a beater sammy for the back yard,so will prob. keep them, even 6.4 to 1 gears would be nice to have when there are a lot of rigs on the trail, sometimes they only go one mile in an hours time and it is nice to rest the clutch foot.

Well, a 3:1 would be an interesting compromise between stock (1.8:1) and Calmini/TrailTough (4.24:1).

However, I find the 4.24:1 to be fine, and in fact, absolutely necessary for a lot of obstacles at Moab.  It's not uncommon for me to shift back into 4-hi between obstacles.

Like jason said you are never too low! It seems to me that its all about having the right gear for the job. Wich means many different gears. One reason I am thinking about OTT kicker 3 and my 4-1. If thats not low enough I may go to a 6.5-1. I say get the 4-1 though. I have a samurai with 30" tires and teh 4-1 and I love it. You can still cruise down the freeway but low range is about perfect for mild trails.

With an auto trans and the "infinite" crawl
ratio that it offers, a 3:1 would be better
for the auto trans, gee, does this sound
familiar ???  I posted this about a year ago,
I said the same thing then, I don't need a
super crawl 1st, I like the stock low range
and 1st gear for sand hills, tho I wouldn't
mind a second gear low that is the same as
1st low with the stock gears

I'm going to figure out what reduction gear
ratio that would have to be, hhmmm  I bet it's
about 3:1    :P

I run alot in the desert. 20mph top speed in 5th gear is too low but my high range is ok just not enough power in the sand. right now I use low range 2nd 3rd and4th in the sand.

IMO it all depends

I personally belive that the 4:24 is quite adiquate as no zuki really has tons of torque compared to lets say a jeep 4.0L

the only thing that I found with my bud's samurai w/ the 1.6L swap
was that the reverse gear was far too low and that shifting into 4hi in a deep mud bog or any weird angle takes way too long

I am still contemplaiting of throwing a set of those gears into my 03' 2.0 litre model

but hrm.... transfer case gears or arb locker?
gah!
