Day after day I drive my '86 samurai...
« on: October 13, 2012, 02:47:28 PM »
Just getting ready to change the oil on my Samurai and it made me think (once again) just how impressed I am with this rig that has run so reliably year after year. Of course I'm one of those boring old guys with a stock Samurai...even a stock carburator  ???...amazing  ;)

I have a stock '87 Sammy that used to be my father-in-law's.  When he turned 89 he decided that he was thru driving the beaches and gave it to my wife.  It has been my daily driver for the past couple of years.  I think of it as "the little engine that could."

I just took it in for the semi-anual oil change from 10-40 summer to 10-30 winter.  When I pulled it in to the oil change place, the lead guy called out SAMURAI! and all the rest of the guys responded in unison with the same battle cry "SAMURAI!"  Made me actually laugh out loud.

I live in Pittsburgh, and since I've had this thing, it is the only one I've ever seen on the roads.  I get asked at least twice a week if I am interested in selling it.  The answer is NO.  Mine has only 65K on the clock.

I think Ill drive it and maintain it in it's original form until it actually falls apart.

Yours looks almost exactly like mine, including the black painted stock wheels. Unfotunatly mine has had some defered maintenance and is of questionable reliability, maybe some day ill get to drive it daily. That's great to hear how good your samurai has been for you.

Nothing wrong with stock Samurais. I have a couple in my fleet as well.
25+ years of Samurai ownership!

Actually, all kidding aside, I'm suprised how many stock (or pretty close to stock) Samurais I see on the road here in Oregon.
