« on: May 16, 2010, 05:28:21 AM »
I need to replace my CAT on my 91 sidekick 8V.I was looking at a magnaflow but Autozone's web site give them a really bad review.I'm also looking at a Walker super converter .Has any body had problems with either one? ???

Both brands have a good reputation, I had a walker muffler, but the cat I got was
just the cheapest I could find, most don't last more than a few years according to
the smog tech I talked to.

OEM Cats are the best, designed to last like 50K Miles to meet the Federal smog
warranty required on all new vehicles

This is what I put on my '92 and it works just fine. If you poke around on ebay you can find cheaper ones.

You can also get 5' of SS pipe for the same price.

only two problems are, that stainless pipe in place of converter=SMOG FAIL,  and also gets you in trouble since I believe the cat is a federally mandated component.

I'm simply doing a high flow, because as much as I dislike the converter, it needs to be there by law.

Questions for you on that converter Bill S:
1: does your egr still function correctly, ie no code 51 or p0400?
2: how did you address the rear o2 sensor bank? Or does the 92 not use one?

The 92 doesn't have one.  :)

That being said, I recommend running a cat on anything other then a trail rig.  It really is better for the environment, even if it is a pain in the ass.

I'm not getting any engine codes.EGR Is working.Just bad mileage .Seem to rev slow under 2500 rpm's.It was burn oil when I got it (BAD).Rebuilt engine .So I'm thing the CAT is  plug. And over 100,000 mile.
