4WD Conversion Question
« on: May 04, 2009, 05:29:10 AM »
Hello,
I have a 97 Tracker 2wd. 5 speed 5.12 gears. Will the front 4x4 conversion parts from an 89 1.6 manual work/have the same ratio?
Thanks!

If the 89 has a 1.6 and a manual it will be the same gearing. The whole front drive unit should bolt in if you have the bracket on the driver's side frame rail. If you don't, you can buy it from the dealer and weld it on. Much easier than trying to cut it off the old frame and keep it salvageable.
The transmission from the 89 will have a lower 5th gear as well. So it will compensate to a point for the bigger tires...
