1985 Suzuki Carry 4x4 Truck
« on: December 01, 2011, 07:31:17 AM »
Wow, it's been quite a few years since I've been on this site.  Somehow my account got locked out back then and we also sold our 98 Tracker.  Well I'm a Suzuki owner again and this time I imported a cool little Japanese mini truck from Japan.  Because it's 25 years old, I got an exemption from the EPA/DOT so I  had no problems registering the truck.  It has a 550cc, 3 cylinder engine, 4 speed manual, 4x4 with hi and low range, manual front Aisin hubs, and right hand drive.  This truck makes the Tracker seem huge.  It's only about 4 1/2' wide and 10' long, about the same size as a UTV, but street legal :)  The advantages of this truck over a UTV, besides being street legal, is a fully enclosed cab, windshield wiper, heat, lights & turn signals, and seat belts.

Here's some pics

I plan to put lift it 2" and replace the 12" wheels with 13" wheels and put a hitch on it.  Thanks for looking.  It sure gets a lot of looks when I drive it around town.  I've never had so much fun driving a slow car--I even had a school bus go around pass me last week.  I figure Suzuki owners would get a kick out of it.

Sweet! I will own one of these some day.

I went wheeling in Moab with a bunch of UTVs and one people had a Suzuki Carry. It did pretty well. Due to most of the weight being over the front wheels, people had to hold the back end down on some of the steeper stuff. Here's a pic of in on display.

If you forward to 0:38, you can see it.

Thats cool. I see the seats are fixed like the Samurai pick up and the headrests are bolted to the metalwork too. How tall are you? there doesn't look like there is a lot of room in there.

We got the 2WD versions of those here, the company I worked with had three of them - a pickup like the one you have, a micro bus and a panel van (identical to the bus, except that it had no windows at the sides).

One thing you need to watch out for - they roll over very, very easily - if this had been the Suzuki that Consumer Reports wrote up for the roll over article they would have been justified.
