Automatic trans not working
« on: November 27, 2005, 07:35:52 PM »
I let my son drive my 93 sidekick and it would not go  :'(  I got home and it seemed to be low on fluid, but no signs of leaking ??? so I filled it up and drove it around for awhile. Seem to be slipping a little so I added more fluid. Then it started to leak at the back of the motor were the trans bolts to. Could this be a front pump seal or ???? Any help would be appriciated Thanks

That sounds like a trans (pump) seal, or
the seal around the Torque Convertor

Slipping, how often has the fluid been
changed ? and how many miles on it ?

The fluid was pretty much changed when I did the motor rebuild. Is the front seal easy to change?? Pull the trans and replace ?? Thanks

How, long ago did you rebuild the engine ?
The reason I ask is on reassembly you may
have damaged the seal in the trans.

I replaced mine whenI did the engine too,
looks like a pain to change, until you know
the secret, go get a cheapy dent puller with a
2 LB slide hammer on it, pierce the seal with
the screw (on the end of the puller) and slide
hammer it out, slick and easy.

I got a reaplacement seal from a bearing place,
these seals are a silicone lip type, and I bet $20
from the dealer, I got one for $5 waited 1 day for
it to get there, and picked it up, take the old seal
for # cross reference, best way to get the right one

Not if it's silicone, that doesn't dry out

Could it have got friction burned from
no oil on it at startup ???

So is it easier to pull the motor or the trans. I've pulled the motor about 6 times but never a trans
