Roll Cages for a Kick
« on: June 02, 2007, 04:29:27 PM »
I'm looking for ideas to build a roll cage for my Kick soft top. I haven't decided if it will be internal or exo or maybe even a combo. Any pics would be great.

I replied on Difflock too but I'll repeat it here. I drove a Vit with a Calmini internal roll cage. I'm 6ft 2" and I was continuously banging my head on it. If you're tall you might find the external cage easier to live with. It will also protect the bodywork better.

I'm also 6"2.
Lil padding and getting use to where it is
solved that problem for me.
It only took one bump to figure out that problem ;D

I've just been checking on the regs over here and they have changed a bit recently. Apparently I can't run a 6 point internal on the road anymore. It has to be 4 point with a removable front section if I want 6 point. That rules out the Calmini.

it always makes me laugh when ministry says that it is not legal to be even safer!!! no harness and no multi point cage cuz it is safer and you might hurt yourself less!!!
does that have any logic too it. had a friends car taken off the road since he had an approved harness for racing and it was illegal for the road ....how is that?

I know where they're coming from. Normally in a competition you would be wearing a helmet but in day to day driving you don't and if you hit your head on the bar it can potentially cause you more damage.

Padding is essential but it makes the bar much wider and therefore much closer to your head so you hit it more. Its not really a safety problem just an annoyance and a distraction, maybe better seats would help. You can get bounced around a lot in the stock seats it makes it difficult to avoid banging your head even when you know the bar is there.
