I need a distributor for my 92 sidekick 4 door with the 1.6 16v engine. Mine seems to have worn out. I have replaced everything but the rings and the pressures are good for all 4 mouse wholes. So, unless someone knows another reason why it would run great 1 min, bad the next and I have to keep resetting the timing...hook me up with a complete distributor!

Have you checked your crankshaft pully for a worn or gouged out keyway? If someone removed the crank pully by removing the center bolt instead of the 6  8mm outer bolts, then replaced the crank pully and didn't torque it properly, you could have a loose pully, which would do what your describing. This is a common mistake when changing the timing belt, and results in a mangled keyway on the end of the crank, which in turn results in major timing fluctuations. Check it before you buy a distributor.

Had no clue and bet my mech didn't either...hes my nephew...will check that out as it has net run right sense we changed the belt!

Had one with a bad keyway in the crank also could set the timing drive it a half mile and would start loosing power. Stop and check timing and it would be off again.

x2.  I would guess the crank keyway is worn and the lower timing belt pulley is wobbling on the crank and that is why the timing varies.  And by "wobbling" I don't mean you can actually see it wobble front to back, it will be slipping back and forth around the perimeter of the crank nose.
Oh, and you will find there are only 5 small bolts that hold the crank pulley onto the timing gear.

Opps! Well, I knew there were SOME small bolts holding it on, and every time I do it it seems like a hundred they take so long to get right!
